Sandie and Toby

Sandie scheduled her photo session, unsure how much longer her beloved Toby could endure a severe case of laminitis. Her goal was to capture some beautiful portraits with her faithful friend before he succumbed to the pain of founder.   However, this amazing horse has defied the odds and is beginning to get a little spring back in his step!  I believe Sandie's love and devotion might have something to do his remarkable recovery.

In her own words...

This is the story of Mr. Incredible. With all the turmoil in the world, Toby is often my quiet strength. He’s always been special in my eyes, but recently he has shown me another aspect of courage – to keep moving forward despite your limitations, perceived or otherwise. Earlier this year, Toby foundered – a bone in each of his two front feet had dropped away from the inside of the hoof wall and was pressing down on the soles. It’s very painful and most often the horse does not survive. But then again, we’re talking about Toby here. He just doesn’t give up. Ever. With the incredible help and inventiveness of Veterinarian Dr. E.W. Hildreth and farrier Jason Koffel and others Toby is still walking. In fact, he took off at a gallop in his pen just a few days ago – completely astounding us all in the process! I hadn’t seen him run in almost a year. We can’t believe he is walking, much less running around like the proud Arabian horse he is with his tail up over his back! He’s always kept that sparkle in his eyes and even though he probably didn’t feel like moving forward sometimes, he did and hopefully because of this he’ll be in my life for many years to come. There’s something to be said for tenacity, resolve, and creativity – the team that’s been taking care of him has all of these and more. Heartfelt thanks to all of them for their amazing care and hard work.
